Cotton with a Conductive Silver Lining

The Faraday Women’s T-Shirt combines comfortable cotton with an interior conductive silver lining. The silver-lined material creates a shielding layer across the chest, upper back, shoulders, and torso covered by the shirt.

Coverage depends on the shirt’s fit, size, neckline, sleeve length, and position. The head, hands, lower body, and other uncovered areas remain exposed.

Women’s T-Shirt Fit

Designed with a women’s T-shirt silhouette, this shirt provides a comfortable fit that can be worn alone or layered beneath other garments.

Choose the appropriate size based on the product’s size chart. A proper fit helps keep the silver-lined fabric positioned across the intended areas without excessive stretching or large gaps.

Not all Faraday fabric works the same

Faraday fabrics reduce signals by different amounts because their materials, weave, and number of layers affect performance. [19, 22, 25] In one study, increasing the amount of copper or silver coating improved shielding in the fabrics tested. [25] Washing can also change how well a fabric works, while protective coatings can help some fabrics keep their shielding ability through repeated cleaning. [13, 17]

What Does Faraday Fabric Do?

Before Faraday
After Faraday

For illustration only: screen indicators show signal reduction through Faraday fabric, not actual measurements.

What is Faraday fabric?

Faraday fabric reduces radiofrequency (RF) transmission through reflection and absorption: some energy reflects off its conductive surface, while some entering the material is dissipated as heat, leaving less to pass through. [14, 21] Shielding is measured in decibels (dB); a 30 dB result means transmitted power is one-thousandth of the unshielded value under the test conditions. [12]

Conductivity, thickness, frequency, and openings determine performance. [19, 21] Greater conductivity and additional conductive layers can improve shielding, while gaps and poorly connected seams can weaken it. [19, 21, 22] Frequency affects penetration into the conductor and leakage through openings; RF shielding results also cannot establish effectiveness against low-frequency magnetic fields. [21, 23]

Research has demonstrated flexible, breathable shielding textiles, with improvements achieved through conductive coatings and layered designs. [14, 15, 22, 24] NIST’s guidance emphasizes that seams and leakage can compromise signal isolation, so laboratory fabric measurements alone cannot establish how a finished garment or cover will perform. [18, 20]

Wireless signals are all around us

Phones, Wi-Fi routers and Bluetooth devices use radiofrequency (RF) waves for calls, internet access and wireless connections. [1, 2, 3] RF is non-ionizing, meaning it lacks the energy to damage DNA directly in the way X-rays can. [1] Exposure varies with transmitting power, distance and use; sufficiently high levels can damage tissue through heating, but typical environmental levels are too low to cause significant heating. [4]

Some findings warrant continued investigation: in 2011, IARC classified RF fields as “possibly carcinogenic,” reflecting limited evidence rather than an established cause of cancer in humans. [5] U.S. National Toxicology Program experiments linked high, whole-body RF exposure to tumors in male rats, and a later animal review also found evidence of increased brain and heart tumors. [6, 7] Applying these findings to everyday human exposure remains difficult, and ARPANSA disputes the animal review’s methods and interpretation. [6, 7, 8]

Human research has been more reassuring: a 2024 WHO-commissioned review and the large COSMOS study found no association between mobile phone use and the brain tumors investigated. [9, 10] The UK Health Security Agency also reports no consistent evidence that Wi-Fi exposure harms the general population’s health. [2] Research is substantial, with remaining gaps involving very long term exposure, children’s lifetime use, accurate exposure measurement and wearable devices. [1, 3]

What is Faraday fabric?

“Faraday fabric” is a broad name for conductive textiles designed to reduce radiofrequency (RF) signal transmission, rather than one specific material. [11, 12] These fabrics may contain stainless-steel threads or coatings of copper, nickel, or silver; researchers also use conductive polymers and carbon materials. [12, 13, 14, 15]

Their practical appeal is combining shielding with the lightness and flexibility of fabric. [11] Laboratory studies have developed breathable shielding textiles and specially treated silver- and copper-based fabrics that retained shielding after repeated washing. [14, 16, 17]

Shielding effectiveness is measured in decibels (dB), with results depending on signal frequency, conductivity, and fabric construction. [12, 18, 19] NIST describes shielded containers used to isolate mobile devices during forensic investigations, while emphasizing that seams and leakage can compromise performance. [20] A fabric’s laboratory results therefore cannot, by themselves, establish how a finished garment or cover will perform. [18, 20]
